Fall is the season of the ever-fabulous brunettes and crimsons. It is fast approaching with only days to spare, and most of us are or will be making the transition from light to dark in terms of hair color. Before you make the leap, there is a big factor to consider: your skin tone.
Your skin tone and your hair color go together hand-in-hand; your hair color brings out the subtleties of your tone and have the power to enhance its natural beauty. It's the biggest and best compliment to your skin. If you've ever gone too dark or too light and wondered why it washed you out or had harsh effects, more than likely it is because the color clashed with your skin tone.
Before deciding on a color, the first step is to identify your skin tone. We've provided you with the essential tests to revealing the tone of your skin, along with this season's hottest shades of browns and reds to compliment them:
Cool tones

Famous Faces: Amy Adams, Kim Kardashian, Anne Hathaway, Emma Stone
Eye colors: Blue, gray, dark brown
Natural hair colors: Ash blonde, dark brown, black
Undertones in skin: Pink, olive, blue
You look best in: Black, white, silver, and blue
Color of veins on wrist: Blue
Rundown: Most shades of red will look good with cooler and light skin tones, as the red compliments the pink and blue undertones of the skin. Darker shades of brown and black with blue and purple undertones can work great, especially for olive skin tones. Avoid going too dark with very fair skin, as it can wash you out.
Best Fall Colors: Medium browns, reds, dark browns with bluish/cool undertones. Auburn, Mahogany, Coffee, & Black.
Warm tones

Famous Faces: Jessica Alba, Jennifer Lopez, Beyonce, Cameron Diaz
Eye colors: Light & dark brown, hazel, green
Natural hair colors: Golden brown, golden blonde, strawberry blonde, chestnut brown, black
Undertones in skin: Peach, yellow, gold, red
You look best in: Brown, off-white, gold, and orange
Color of veins on wrist: Green
Rundown: Hair color with this skin tone revolves around warmth. Warm reds, golden highlights, and rich browns with gold undertones all work great to bring out the warmth in the skin. Be careful choosing colors with too much of a cool undertone, as the combination between skin & hair can be dulling.
Best Fall Colors: Rich browns, warm reds, and warm/golden undertones. Caramel, Chestnut, Auburn & Chocolate.
